Little People built a curriculum over the years that best meets the needs of the children. Our play based curriculum has many Montessori components incorporated into the day. We believe children learn best when they are actively engaged in fun, purposeful play. We include topics of interest and meaning to the children. Our classrooms are set up in centers including: math, science, manipulatives, construction, dramatic play, art, and library.
Developing social skills is a focus of our daily curriculum. We work with the children to develop a sense of empathy, social interaction, including conflict resolution and self- regulation. We feel these are the foundation to become a well-rounded individual. We do not provide children with high tech activities. We feel that children are provided screen time at home and we focus on the social skills.
Our program also includes outdoor time for all children twice a day. Studies show that children with access to nature are better learners. Exposure to nature has been shown to reduce stress and increase attention spans. Cognitive benefits of outside play include: Creativity, problem solving and self- discipline. Social Benefits include: cooperation, flexibility and self-awareness, and emotional Benefits include stress reduction , reduced aggression and increased happiness.
